Branch for Moodle 1.6 is definitely happening today

OK, we are definitely going to branch for Moodle 1.6 today and I'll bump it to Moodle 1.6 Beta 5 at the same time.

The bug fixing will continue on the branch, but there will be no more database changes allowed in 1.6.

HEAD will be freed up again for work on the 1.7 roadmap.

Is it too much to ask when you anticipate 1.6 stable to be released, taking into consideration bugs that still need fixing and any that might arise in the nearest future?

Very soon I hope, but it's not easy to predict. A lot of serious flaws had been coming out in the past few weeks. It's slowed down somewhat (hence the branching now) but lots of things still need attention (see the bug tracker).

The beta should be quite usable now though, for all but big production sites.

Branch tag is MOODLE_16_STABLE

Branch point is MOODLE_16_BETA

And the crude part is that we need to start working with MOODLE_16_STABLE, merging every change to HEAD again...instead of the direct, quick and immediate work against HEAD. Heavier but more amusing! 眨眼

Well, just committed the formal_white theme to support updated  1.6 theme specs. It is in HEAD, I hope it is not too late.

Yes, too late, but don't worry, I merged them into the STABLE branch for you.

We all need to do this this in our local dev sites:

cvs -q update -r MOODLE_16_STABLE

and then from now on keep checking 1.6 bug fixes into STABLE first, and then merge them across to HEAD (which is now 1.7 dev).
