Top higher education institutions using Moodle

Hi all!

I wanted to know what top universities and colleges are currently using Moodle. I am aware of the “Moodle registered sites” page. However, as of now, there are 120120 of 165300 currently active sites that have requested privacy and are not shown in the list. There may be many big names that use it! Of course, please answer if doing so is not a breach of confidentiality.

Note: By "top" I mean the best higher education institutions in international rankings, and also the ones with the greatest number of students.

PD: I know this has been asked before, but the last one was in 2011. It's time for an update!

Are three that immediately come to my mind, and I know lots of other UK ones, including many parts of the Universtity of London.

I know it is a tall order, but do you know by chance if they have stuck with legacy Moodle versions, or have they upgraded to 4.x versions already?
I know it may seem nosy and inappropriate, but I am a Moodle support agent on an online university and the data would be very helpful to finally take the jump!

I know about the OU because I work there. We are upgrading to Moodle 4.1 next month (currently on 4.0). We upgrade to each new major Moodle version about 7 months after it is released.

Large Universities are likely to be running relatively recent versions of Moodle, typically ones that are still receiving support. If they don't stay fairly up to date and things go wrong they have a lot of explaining to do. I deal with some large Universities every day.

Speaking actually as one of those large University's Moodle Admin, yes, we're running as up to date a version as we can within the bounds and timings of release. So we' on 3.11 but will be on 4.1 from June.

Are you trying to "sell" Moodle to a big manager? For the dedicated teacher, there are many of them hanging around, the question is, "Can I successfully augment my teaching through this LMS?", not how many "top shots" are using it. In fact, they all start at the beginning. Some move forward, others only talk (big).

BTW, I notice that you joined just today - and didn't ask anything about what Moodle could do.

Hi, Mr. Visvanath! I'm not trying to sell Moodle, but rather gauging the level of adoption of Moodle and its latest 4.x versions. I am a Moodle support agent and we're all for Moodle, no doubt, but you know how upgrading to the latest versions can be traumatic to the operation. So, big shots already taking the plunge gives more ease of thought, in a way.

There are at least 15 universities with more than 1,000,000 users according to https://stats.moodle.org/ .
There are >50 universities with more than 10.000 users.

Bit late here, but a Russell Group University with 40k+ users of Moodle.

Currently running 3.11 but upgrading to 4.1 in the next couple of weeks. We always run a supported version.
