I haven't had a chance this week to get into a quiet place and try again until now, but I had everything work just fine this attempt with no errors and I dont think I did anything different? ANyway, my rambling verbal feedback is now logged.
In general, I liked what I saw. The subsections were intuitive to add and navigate to and I especially liked how easy it was to switch to just the subsection away from the full course page making it a hybrid of whole course / one section per page. That's a fantastic addition ; I cant remember if it worked for entire sections? Totally unsure how you'd integrate this with the current collapsing sections or if you'd even try, but I liked what I saw with the obvious caveat of only using it in a prototype.
I don't think you'll ever please everyone with the information density problems and I also don't think that's Moodle Cores job; as long as the CSS is well built, we can do that ourselves or we can engage with theme creators to do it for us.
