Could this be done easily?

Currently, we have this:

  • Not marked (the marker has not yet started)
  • In marking (the marker has started but not yet finished)
  • Marking completed (the marker has finished but might need to go back for checking/corrections)
  • In review (the marking is now with the teacher in charge for quality checking)
  • Ready for release (the teacher in charge is satisfied with the marking but wait before giving students access to the marking)
  • Released (the student can access the grades/feedback)

I would like to add one extra state:

  • Released and sent to external SIS (the student can access the grades/feedback, grades are being synchronized to external systems)

Reason for this being: 

Students will get their grade, but for 2 weeks they have a period to discuss their grades before being finalized. After this period the grade is finalized.

It could also be achieved if their was some way in Moodle to let students see their grade when set to 'ready for release'. I checked the capabilities, but there's not a per Marking workflow state-capability.

Any suggestions?

It should be possible to solve this by locking the grade itself in the gradebook after a specific date. This can be done in the gradebook setup, by enabling the 'Lock grade by date'. It's a bit labor intensive, I would say, but there already is a solution to your challenge that doesn't necessarily require additional development.

Also: the marking workflow statuses are part of core code, and I wouldn't know what would need to be developed as an additional plugin.

Alternatively, an 'Enhanced Assignment' plugin with the other requirements you described in various posts this week could also be a solution.

The grades should not be locked inside Moodle in our case, but in Osiris (SIS). We are sending our grades from Moodle to Osiris already.

Key to this idea is: let our teachers/lecturer only work in Moodle and not type in grades in an external system. Feedback/grading should be done in one place: Moodle. From Moodle the grades and feedback can be sent to other systems.

Hi All. I have the same question: whether it's possible to "easily" add states to marking flow list box in gradebook.
The purpose is different, however. Our graders are responsible for different parts of an assignment; and they would like to leave reminders regarding which part has been graded using states like "Theory graded", "Practice graded", "Theory/practice graded". 

We tried adding different zero-marks grading rubric categories for this, but they are not reflected in the Grading Screen (a table with students as rows and Status/Marker/Grade as columns:
