Well, all it took in the end was hiding the grades and then unhiding them... So somewhere in the system, the order of commands got confused and something got stuck. I also reset the workflow state to released again... Even though it was showing released initially. So one of those kicked the system into life!
We entered feedback and grades online, not through upload.
