You know, I have felt for some time that it was getting more and more difficult to make a real contribution here at moodle.org. The questions were just becoming too technical for me.

But the new documentation wiki is an opportunity for an experienced Moodler who is not a programmer to make a genuine contribution. Which makes me very happy. smile

It makes me want to dance, baby! smile

Art,

I think you already make a big contribution to moodle by being continuously enthusiastic, asking smart questions and answering other people's dumb ones big grin

Thank you, Richard. That is much appreciated. smile

You know, looking at my earlier post, it looks an awful lot like fishing for compliments. Didn't want that. (Ithink...) It's is just that so many of the questions now require the attention of a datbase expert, someone who knows PHP at a very advanced level, a gifted web designer, etc., I am usually way out of my league.

And so many of my grand ideas for implementing Moodle in the classroom have not really  worked out as I had hoped, I am a bit reluctant to dispense my "sage" advice to newbies. (This is due not to any difficiency in Moodle, but rather my lack of focus, I know.)

But I really do think that contributing to Moodledocs is a way a non-programmer can make a lasting, meaningful contribution. For the average teacher slogging away in a classroom somewhere, this documentation project will be a Godsend. And I am going to try to help out there a little and see how it goes. I am pretty pumped about it, really.

Best regards,
Art

Can I get another AMEN!?

When I saw moodle docs (within 3 days or so of it starting) i went in and threw in a 10-pt FAQ for why to pick moodle. Within a day it had be shuffled, cleaned up, and recategorizes as http://docs.moodle.org/en/Decision_FAQ

What's really funny is how I used some words (like "thingee") that someone thought was unprofessional (which is a VERY relative term, considering the oldest profession in the world). It's fun to look at the talk for the page at

http://docs.moodle.org/en/Talk:Decision_FAQ

And even cooler is how you can look at the history: http://docs.moodle.org/en/index.php?title=Decision_FAQ&diff=5695&oldid=4290

So I find it very empowering... and am now thinking that the book I wanted to produce "Moodle Step by Step" really ought to just be integrated into this - though I'm not exactly sure how tutorials fit into the scheme of documentation.

And Art- don't every confuse ability with contribution...

Likewise, Helen. We will spend a little more time together next time, I hope.

And thank you for doing the documentation in a wiki. It makes it so easy to contribute!
