I use marking guides to grade assignments as it allows me to assign points within a range. I need to also be able to deduct points when students do not comply with assignment instructions such as formatting or late submissions. These criteria are not included in the other criteria but would only serve as deductions. When trying to enter a negative point value, I receive an error message that negative values can not be accepted. Please advise how I can deduct points and enter negative point values for these issues. Thanks in advance!

I don't have an answer in regard to using negative point values. What I used instead was one extra, "Miscellaneous," criterion in my Marking Guide. Depending on the activity, it usually was 5, 10, of 15 points. I used this criterion mostly for just what your describe, "formatting or late submissions," and also used it for those unanticipated mistakes not otherwise covered in the Marking Guide by the other criteria.
