just to clarify things, "sites news or 'Latest announcements' are supported in the "Site home" when is configured to show within the main page, not like a block. If you choose in the "Front page settings" to display the "latest announcements" you will see a link that will open the forum for the "Site home".
But, if you add the "'Latest announcements'" block in both "Site home" or the "Dashboard" it won't be displayed.
