sub-courses?

Hi I am using moodle v3.6.2 and adaptable theme

I have a question on the best way to set up courses and categories, I have 3 qualifications:

  • Level 3 in IT
  • Level 3 in Business
  • Level 3 in Business IT

Each of the qualifications have 8 modules, and they are shared with each other. For each module, I will need to set up one course page for the materials. The qualifications will also need their own page as they have materials I need to upload.

Is there a way to have three course pages and also course pages for the modules, but hide the module course pages. I just want it to say Level 3 in business/ business IT/ IT when they login. Then when they click on the Level 3 courses, they can click on links to the module pages (so essentially the module pages are hidden from the home page and can only be accessed if you click on the Level 3 pages first).

I hope that makes sense, please can you let me know if you have any suggestions

Hi, I'm not sure if this would work, I've just read it says here:

Here is how we use metacourses for our district. Lets take a math teacher for example who teaches algebra 1, algebra 2 and geometry. This teacher wants a space (Moodle course) for each of their main subject areas. But they also want a generic space where they can post things for all of the students in all of their classes. This is where a meta course comes into play.

We create a Moodle course for algebra 1, another course for algebra 2 and a 3rd course for geometry. Now we enroll all of the appropriate students into each of these courses. Next we create a meta course and to the meta course we assign the first three courses created. Now by default, all of the students in the first three courses are automatically enrolled in the meta course. Now anything posted in the metacourse is available to all the students in the other three courses.

The bit in bold wouldn't work, for example the modules are:

Level 3 diploma in Business IT (Networking, Computer Systems, IT Skills, Management Skills, Marketing, Accounting and Finance, eBusiness)

Level 3 diploma in business (Management Skills, Marketing, Accounting and Finance, eBusiness, Business communications, Mathematics in business, Concepts of business, business strategy)

If I enrol someone onto the Management skills course for example and they are studying a level 3 diploma in business, it would also enrol them onto the Level 3 diploma in business IT, since this is shared. I don't want them to be enrolled automatically on both qualification pages.

It will if you make each module a course (module course) then have top level courses for each of the level 3 courses then they have the meta links the 'module course's that they contain.

Hi, thanks for your help. I am following the guidance on how to set up a meta course, it doesn't show this option for me?

Hi, I have worked out what you meant, unfortunately it is still not doing exactly whats needed.

I added Management Skills as a meta link to Level 3 in business and level 3 in business IT.

When I enrolled a student onto management skills, it shows both Level 3 in business and business IT as their courses. How do I make it so that some students only see business and some students only see business IT?

I don't know without spending time experimenting.  So will have to be for another day.

I first enabled the Course Meta Link enrolment in Plugins > Enrolment:

Plugins, then enrolment, then enable course meta link

I went to the module (i.e. Management skills) and clicked course > enrolment methods. Then added 'course meta link' and chose the relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 3 in Business, Level 3 in Business IT). I then repeated this with the other modules.

Then, whenever I enrolled students onto the Level 3 in Business (or Business IT) course, it automatically enrolls them onto the correct modules.

The first time I had tried it, I had done it the wrong way around (adding the module courses to the qualification course instead of adding the qualification courses to the module course).
