Links in subfolder. Possible?

Links in subfolder. Possible?

Hi,

in Moodle 3.5

I have course --> folder ---> subfolder

I would need to create links inside a subfolder to give more resources to students. The only (not very usable) way I have found is to upload a pdf file with links inside.

Any links are available on subfolders. Also html file uploaded there are downloaded and not open as page by browser.

Thanks for any help

Greetings

What do you mean by "links"? Do you mean links to websites? If so then simply add a Page resource and paste your links into there. However, I apologise if I have misunderstood the type of links you mean.

Hi Mary thank you for your kindly reply

Yes, with links I mean (external than Moodle) urls. Your solution seems not valid in a subfolder, where I found only way to create further subfolders or upload files.

Hello again. But I don't understand why you need to have a subfolder for links? A folder is for holding documents such as files. If you want to have a collection of links the easiest way is to add them to a Moodle page. Have you tried the Moodle Page resource? Or even the Moodle Book resource which is a neat way of holding links and information and images?

I wonder if you have used a different LMS that uses folders for everything and that is why you are thinking about folders?

Hi, thanks for your reply

course have been started with folder-subfolders structure. I mean:

topic A

subtopic A1

subtopic A2

topics are folders, subtopics are subfolders

For what I have learned until now, it seems we can't insert urls, pages or book in subfolders.

Can you post a screenshot of a topic and subfolder so we can see what you mean? I think there might be a language confusion here.

If you are only planning on uploading documents to your Moodle course then Moodle folders (is this what you mean: Folder? would be acceptable but if you want to add other resources such as URLs it might be worth considering alternative layouts.

HI,

this is the course with several "topics" made with folders (arguments or modules are synonymous)

course

Inside every topic there are more subtopics (or related arguments) managed with subfolders.

subfolder

Ask to me if it is not clear

Many thanks

I think, you are looking for the URL of a sub-folder. To my knowledge there are none. The resource has a URL but not components inside it.

Hi,

I'm not looking for the url of the subfolder. I'm looking for a way to put links in a subfolder

Thanks for your reply

But the https://docs.moodle.org/en/Folder_resource is made to put files in it!

Are you looking for an opening-and-closing menu element? Try searching the https://moodle.org/plugins/.

For that reason it seems that Moodle folders are not able to collect anything else than files to be downloaded. Even if you create a html file (with links inside) and you put it in a folder, you will be able only to download it and not to open it as a web page.

For what I know until now, I'm not able to insert links in folder and subfolders.
It is possible to put links in the course using "add resource".

But in my case I have a course already started with a structure made with folders and subfolders...

What could i do with opening-and-closing menu element?

Thanks for your reply

Why not use the URL resource which is specifically made for it? And yes this is how you add links into the course using "add a resource or activity"

But again, if you have a lot of links, I do recommend you use "add a resouce or activity" and then choose "Page" and then paste your links into the editor of that page -as I am going to do here:

Moodle documentation on URL resource

Moodle documentation on Page resource

Moodle documentation on Book resource

And yes , you are correct in what you say that  it seems that Moodle folders are not able to collect anything else than files to be downloaded

Moodle offers alternative resource types for displaying materials and alternative course layouts to help with this.

Also, feel free to join our Learn Moodle MOOC (a free course that has just begun teaching educators how best to use Moodle)

If you have "cut" the course without looking at Moodle, there is a good chance that it will not fit.
;-(

Yes, the Learn Moodle MOOC would be a good start.
