Every year... at the same period... same people... same hypocrisy.... for few days...
people in churches (or at battle camps) praying for a better world... but just praying !

Fair enough, Yves. I know that many intelligent, intellectually honest people agree with you.

I do not pray and because I am a Jew, I do not take part in the religious celebration of Christmas... But I think that prayer is often sincere and that many, many people try to live their faith throughout the year.  It feels to me like I see it all the time at school and in my community.

And even this virtual community exists to make the world a better place, I'd say.

Just my two cents, of course. Beyond this very superficial level it gets a little too complicated for me, I admit.

Regards,
Art

You're right... Working in the Sustainable Development area, I also meet many hypocrisy too.. but we must go on.
I also believe that after this long period of 'individual focus' (me, myself, my goods...) only true network collaboration can make it...
as this will come with new generation I truly believe in the very young one (the 20's) and the collaborative tool they have to make it better .... Moodle is one of them, its base is not technical but mainly educational..... and as far as this community will maintain this objective, it will bring its piece to a better world...

Happy Hanukkah !!!

Art and Yves,

I agree with both of you. There is definitely a lot of hypocrisy in the world, but the Moodle community is different.

Just imagine a fourth spirit in the Christmas Carol:

The spirit of Moodle showing the world what can happen if people of all colors, religions and nationalities work together peacefully. Im sure Scrooge would have turned into a moodler 'on this very night'. smile

Holiday Greetings to the entire Moodle Community:

Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noel, Frohe Weihnachten, Happy Hannukkah !

Definitly Ulrike !!!!
That's why we enjoyed so much Moodle ! we try to understand how we can use it with our dev projects regarding Fab Labs..... see

http://www.worldchanging.com/archives/001141.html
and http://fab.cba.mit.edu/
same bright ideas.... let's do it simple

"pluritas non est ponenda sine necessitate" (Ockham)
We strongly believe , that the next big revolution will be the "Open Source Fabrication".... to help less developed countries to get up and people fabricates what they need... not what some people think what they should need..... (wml) wink

Re: Also: If Every Day Were Christmas - "Imagine" Moodle

by David Delgado -

Ulrike... I do agree with you. Moodle is "different", "showing the world what can happen if people of all colors, religions and nationalities work together peacefully", as you said. The year I was born (1971), a man called John Lennon wrote a song about that, he called it "Imagine".

Here is what he said about that...

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

That words remind me of Moodle wink

I saw "Gods must be crazy" long time ago. But Moodle ain't a Coke bottle... tongueout

Imagine there's no countries... (146 countries using Moodle but just 1 community)
Imagine no possesions,
Sharing all the world... (Moodle is an Open source project, GPL License)

You may say I'm a dreamer, (that's you wink)
but Im not the only one, (82,749 members in this community and 2,051,385 users)

I hope some day you'll join us, (waiting for #100,000 registered member)
And the world will live as one. (Moodle is evolving towards being the most important e-learning LMS in the World)

wink big grin smile

There is a serious contradiction here:

Ulrike... I do agree with you. Moodle is "different", "showing the world what can happen if people of all colors, religions and nationalities work together peacefully", as you said. The year I was born (1971), a man called John Lennon wrote a song about that, he called it "Imagine".

Here is what he said about that...

Imagine there's no countries,
...
No religion too,

Re: Also: If Every Day Were Christmas - "Imagine" Moodle

by David Delgado -

Sorry, but I do not see any contradiction. There is no unique religion asked to be part of this community. Everyone follows their own religion. So, there is not "official" religion in Moodle. Anyway... it is much easier to find "Imagine" becoming a reality in any open source project than in the rest of the World. wink

Re: Also: If Every Day Were Christmas - "Imagine" Moodle

by N Hansen -
The song does not imply that people are not forced to have a particular religion, it says that no religion is better than having a religion. Look at the first couple lines-imagine there is no heaven, imagine there is no hell-it's not a song of religious tolerance and inclusiveness, but rather anti-religion.

Re: Also: If Every Day Were Christmas - "Imagine" Moodle

by David Delgado -

Ok, though my personal point of view agrees with the song and Lennon, most people do not. So, ok, you are right, we do not have 100% of "Imagine" implemented in Moodle. wink

Anyway, I'm not expecting anyone to agree with that ever. Just think of how beautiful the rest of the song is. smile

I hope this has not upset you. Sorry if it did.

He should have rather written 'no church'... religion belongs to the private area... 'church or chapel' rely to the public area which can lead to manipulation, conflict...
whatever coding language I am using, my program can be helpful.... but if I say that's running better on Apple.... this will bring a never ending discussion black eye

Yves-That is a very French view that religion belongs to the private area. I doubt that everyone on Moodle would agree with you. I think the only thing that can be said is that each person's truth is relative to what they believe.

yep... but as you mentionned before how many troubles would neve happen if it could stay in to private area cool ....
