Just got another message from a friend 'in transition' who is trying to get out form under the weight of blackweb (blackboard/webct) (they are being asked to upgrade to enterprise). Her IT head claimed that their school (5000 people including staff) was too large for an open source solution... I'm getting very tired of this. I suggest
1. that we get a chart together with large schools that have adopted (send in the info, i'll make the chart) When i say 'athabasca and NZLV' i hear 'oh yeah, but how much do they spend on implementation?' a nice long list would solve this problem.
2. we somehow get a third party to review this information and post it somewhere other than here (people get susupicious when i send them to 'moodle.org' for information about moodle.)
3. we make this part of the large 'moodle transition package' that we can send to people when they are trying to make a pitch for moodle. (again, send info, i'll package and repost)

Every schoolyear we start again with counting the number of users and the automatic counter (thanks Penny!) is now pointing at 3103
I've have also heard this kind of comment in a presentation on e-learning by an "e-learning expert" in higher education. He dismissed "free software" (obviously including Moodle) as something only viable for a faculty member to set up by themselves, and went on to explain that if you want something to scale for use university-wide you need a commercial or proprietary system. Of course this is nothing but blatant FUD, but we really need resources on Moodle.org to show what kind of schools are using Moodle, and size of some of the larger installations.

Hi Bob- Could you characterize the actual usage?
Number of hits, that's a very gross measure.
A profile of hits per tool/feature would be better,
things you can see in the Logs.
Also, could you say a bit more about the actual server you are using.

Thanks, Scott! i also found it later on as i continued to browse the site. i noticed that in a PowerPoint presentation that in 2004 it listed about 1,100 sites...
