We had developed a similar solution along with the ability to email those students who are not performing well or not accessing the course for a set period of time.
This isn't a complex process but yes it is a lengthy process when it comes to developing the required blocks in the dashboard.
But the process is certainly recommended because Moodle already saves all these information we could actually get generate reports after setting right database queries.
