Very slow login time

Very slow login time

Dear moodle forum

We have a moodle server with about 2500 users on the run version 3.2.4+ and run with LDAP lookup to AD.

Our problem is that the login time is very slow, it is up to about 30 seconds but after logging in, run it perfectly! That's the first problem the other is when you click on the home button it as long.

We have more servers where there are even more users on and who are also set up with ldap and that runs just fine. Someone who has some bids on what I can do ?? have tried "purg all cash" but unsuccessfully.

with best regards

Christian

Is this for ALL users or just for admins or managers?

If you create a manual (not LDAP) user is it just as slow?

What happens if you use an LDAP search tool (e.g. ldapsearch on Linux) of your choice to bind a user account on the server (but not in Moodle)?

Are there any non-core plugins on your site even vaguely related to authentication or enrolment?

Is the rest of the site really ok? What are your page load times for 'normal' pages (roughly)?

sorry for the late reply

I have tried to make a manual user and it runs perfectly

so the error must be in ldap?

The rest of the page runs just fine no problem it is only at login and by pressing the home button that the problem occurs with the Admin user and LDAP

I have never tried to use a ldap search tool but I will try.

There is no additional plug-in for login we run with the built-in ldap feature

It's worth doing a search for how to use ldapsearch. It's not too bad but it has lots of options.

Worth the trouble if you are an LDAP user though.

You don't have Theme Designer mode turned on do you?  Found under admin settings/appearance/theme settings...

It is not for all users, only admins seems to be affected.

Does that ring a bell for anyone?

Did you use Firebug to test on the client? We had also long login times and the problem was the service.php call that wasn't able to connect and timed out every 30 seconds. The solution was configuring the proxy server in Moodle.

hello Alain

Thank you for your response

I have now tried fourbug from a client and get these results

I do not think it's service.php it's wrong with ??

I have made 2 new firebug tests that I have attached.

It is only for login and and when you press the home button. There is no problem otherwise

After we find out, it's not all users that's wrong with trying to make a local user and there's no problem.

Hope you can help

It's difficult to say what's the bottleneck here. Did you also look at the performance and network tab in Firebug?
Did you also check the logfiles on the server to see if some task is taking so much time?
You can also use the developersmode in Moodle to get more debug information (only use it in a test environment).

I do not think it's performance or network.

It seems there are only people who are members of the admin group who have the problem. all our students have no problems?

I have checked logs in apache but it does not come with anything

I have tried to put debug messages under site administration / Development / Debugging but where do I see the messages ??

How are you specifying the Host URL for the LDAP Authentication plugin?

Is there just one host? Is it specified by IP address or DNS name?

I find that with AD it's best to use the DNS name for the domain as this splits load between domain controllers and can handle individual servers not responding. However, in domains where DCs have not been correctly removed, DNS may return the IP address of a DC which is not available.

Of course, this doesn't help if you just have a single IP address in this field.

You mean Moodle site admins are affected, not AD domain administrators?

If you change an admin to be a non-admin does the user log in without the delay?

Could there be a block that only administrators see that's slowing the page down?

You could try hiding blocks under Site administrationPluginsBlocksManage blocks to see if the problem no longer occurs.
