For a starter I think we should have a php+mysql forum here. Until now I've been surviving well looking through all the different modules' files and lib files, but it'd be great to have a specific forum to post questions about php or mysql, specifically for creating/modifying existing modules.

Great point...I second that request.

While a forum for just general PHP stuff would be useful, it also might be stretching the limits of these forums a bit, as these forums are quite busy already. There might be a list of links to some nice resources and forums on those subjects here (some exist already). Maybe the Links to interesting resources could have a category for these? Or a metalist of lists smile ...

PHP manual is quite nice and often have hints on using the functions in the user comments. The manual also has a simple tutorial.

Sitepoint's PHP forum is quite busy.

The General developer forum here might be the best place to ask for a coding specific question about Moodle.

This was also raised here in the documentation course.

Some progress was made and I got an e-mail about it but have been too busy to do anything about it yet blush

That course is a good idea. I'm personally looking for a course that starts at the very begining. Lets create a appache server... lets do mysql... now lets do php... I personally think to do stuff well in tweaking other peoples code in anything you need to know the basics. This may take more than one course a begginer and intermediate and a advanced. I've taken c++ courses and the first thing we did was  cout<<"hello world"<<endl; if you have taken c++ this is about as basic as it gets this is were i want to start i dont want to jump in the middle and and just try to run with it. I'm not pushing any one to make one i just figured since Moodle has been around for a while i figured someone might have a had a stroke of genius to create some moodle courses that teach php.
I'm not sure if it was this forum or another i was reading through but some one said that if there were some courses on php that this could potentially greatly increase the develpoing comunity of moodle. I think this person is absolutly correct i think the time spent to create some very well done courses on php and everything you need learn php would have a great turn around into many more developers.
I know there are books all over the place about php and mysql but things are so much easier to learn when you can do it hands on not when are just reading a book and trying to figure it out.

As Sam mentioned, he has been working on the course and he has made a basic outline of a course which can be seen in the general discussion forum at:  http://moodle.snevets.com/course/view.php?id=132

A more permanent course is planned to be made part of the Moodle certification program or courses.moodle.org.

Any input is welcome smile

I would like to learn PHP because i want to understand all the moodle threads. "PHP applied to/by Moodle" could be a title.
Greetings
