So I respectfully remain unconvinced that this is bad practice and should be discouraged and instead would encourage more adaptation of more common and current accepted practices from the programming community.

I don't wish to argue about whether it is bad practice or good[1], however it is worth stating that some conventions where we are straying for 'standard' practice are over 15 years old and its more important that we have a consistent style than it being aligned with latest trends. (And there is a brave-new bikeshed'd javascript world where we were more free to evolve).

But I don't think we're all that different really.

[1] I secretly think people like lining things up, get much more opportunity to write 'fresh code' than me and aren't reading patches as much or something wink
