Cannot hear the audio quiz attempt

Cannot hear the audio quiz attempt

Hi there,

I have set up a audio quiz for student to do. Basically is asking them repeating after the audio they will here and record their voice.

However, when I review their attempts I cannot see their attempt or I have got a audio saying "Poodll is converting the audio, please try again later.

I have attached the screenshot of the reviewing attempts page. I thing it is probably easier to explain the situation with the image.

You can see that the first audio file for each question is the sentence that I want my students to hear.

The second audio file is supposed to be their responding.

But for Question 10 I have got nothing and for question 11 the second audio saying "Poodll is converting the audio, please try again later. ".

Could you please help me with it? My poodll version is the newest one.

Many thanks.

Hi I tried to do the exercise by myself and figured out it probably because I could not save the recording. Even though I have clicked the "save" button.

I attached the screenshot which shows you how the quiz looks like.

Could you please help?

Many thanks.

The reason for this is probably that the placeholder audio file is being cached by your browser. When you use the standard multimedia plugins filter this is an issue. You have two options here

i) enable the PoodLL filter and set it to handle mp3 files, then it will work as expected.
https://poodll.com/poodll-3-docs/handling-mp3/

OR

ii) set the mp3 recorder to upload directly to Moodle and bypass the cloud.
To do that, under site admin -> plugins -> filters -> poodll -> general settings

under "MP3 Recorder settings" check "no cloud". This works because there is no placeholder file.

Hi Justin,

Thanks so much for your help.

I have tried both methods

 i) did not work but should I turn off the standard multimedia plugin to make it work?

ii) worked but  by turning off the cloud does this mean that we cannot use the recording function on the IOS app in the future?

Hi Vicky

Regarding i) setting up PoodLL to handle audio mp3:

Moodle runs pages through each of the enabled filters in turn. So the Multimedia plugins filter(MMP) needs to run after the PoodLL filter. Otherwise MMP will make an audio player and leave nothing left for PoodLL to process. So on the page:

site admin -> plugins -> filters -> manage filters

move PoodLL higher than MMP in the list.

Disabling MMP will also work. And maybe its simpler. The only proviso here is that YouTube links are handled by MMP. So you would lose that. PoodLL can also handle YouTube links, just as you set up mp3 handling, you need to set up YouTube handling. The player template/preset is Youtube lightbox, but I will add a few more options shortly.

Regarding ii) selecting "no cloud" with the mp3 recorder,

This will have no effect on the mobile app or the other recorders. (at least not in the latest version). The mobile app is looking good but its still a few weeks away

Hi Justin,

Thanks for your reply.

The setting worked for me:

   1) move PoodLL higer than MMP in the list ( I find that which one goes first does not have much difference)

     2) select "no cloud"

    3)  use JS audio to handle MP3 file

However some of the students report that they had problem on their computers. The Issues they had were:

1) When I clicked record it didn't say it was recording
2) It couldn't play back the recording
3) When you click save it had an error uploading.

I also tried:

1) move PoodLL higer than MMP in the list/ turn off the MMP ( But if I turn off the MMP I will have the uploading error when play back the recording attempts. )

2) keep the "cloud"

3)  use JS audio to handle MP3 file

I still have the problem with the recording saying "poodll is still converting your audio, please try again later."
