"Needs Grading" count incorrect

"Needs Grading" count incorrect

We're running 3.1.1.  When a teacher clicks the name of an assignment to go to that assignment's page, the "Needs grading" count listed in the Grading summary is incorrect.  There are 18 participants and 17 submissions (which the Grading summary correctly reflects).  Four have no grade entered, but the Grading summary only list 1 as needing grading.  This behavior isn't consistent, however.  Moodle displays the correct count in other assignments.  Any ideas on what could be going on?

We also have this problem in Moodle 3.0.2.  However, with the NED marking manager plugin installed, the count is correct.  Why is the Moodle core assign module giving an incorrect count here?

I am on 3.0.4 and have seen this only twice since we upgraded in August.

Not sure if there is a tracker about this or if it's just a fluke for some.

This happened to us again ... it's possible that if your teacher has Quick Grading 'on,' that they are clicking inside the grade or feedback boxes but not leaving any grade/feedback and then moodle is taking this as being graded. To prove that, if you go to the grading history report, you may see that this assignment has been 'graded' (but with no grade assigned). So check your Grade History report in the Gradebook to see what is being logged for those assignments.

To workaround this (or fix it):

1. Click on 'View all submissions' button

2. At the bottom of the Grading page, find the 'Filter' drop-down menu, then select: "Requires grading'

3. Grading again, even though you had done it before.

4. Save and return to the Summary page to see the number down. Job Done!

Another possibility is that the teacher has recently viewed a particular group of students instead of all participants. Make sure the view is set to show all participants.

We are running Moodle 3.3 but I suspect our Marking manager isn't set up correctly.  On one course, the manager always returns a count of 1 attempt to be marked per question. When I click on the question, invariably there will be a list of some students who have probably started the question, but not actually submitted it for marking. Unfortunately, the system seems to count this as a question to be graded.

On another course, there's an under-count in the manager. It indicates 2 to be graded, but when you click on the question there could be 3 or 4.

Maybe this isn't a glitch with the manager but rather something we have done incorrectly in setting up the quizzes?
