Here is your sneak peak at the first issue. Just finalising the last couple of details before she hits the presses (well the virtual presses at least).

Looking to find the best way to disttribute this in the future. Ideas are welcomed with open arms as always.

Absolutely beautiful, Julian!

But I don't like Martin's semi-exasperated, formal- gown-look as a photo. sad  I hope he has a better one. smile Actually, we should also remember that the mortar board is not universal symbol of education--at least not in Japan.

No, but it's the Moodle symbol! (he said semi-exasperatedly! smile wink)

Get it fresh while it's hot!

I guess it is just a rush on the virtual presses, but the link to the newsletter crashes my browser.

Moodle symbol or not, my vote would go to the old hatless avatar too.

The file is a standard pdf. Try saving the link and opening it locally. If you are still having issues let me know.

Thanks it is better now. I think that it may have had something to do with my using the link in Martin's post above. Both it and the link from the front page are fine.

And the newsletter is very attractive and informative.

When it becomes a journal I will have our university subscribe to it.

I wonder if there will be versions in other languages.

To be honest I don't see translation happening. It takes a while to get it together as is and having it translated in its entirety will take too long.

However, if anyone wants to do so, they have my blessing.

Did I miss an announcment about the Open University? (5th paragraph in the the lead story by Martin) I was aware they were looking at Moodle but are they actually piloting/using Moodle to teach at the moment.

I'm keen to learn more as OU adoption would be very big news.

Oh yes, it's true, I was just waiting for the proper press release. big grin  big grin  big grin

More news about all this soon, but for now I have a slogan already:

"If it's good enough for OU, it's good enough for YOU!"

That is wonderful. It's nice to see a big distance education provider sinking that kind of money into Moodle. Hopefully this will bring more functionality specifically tailored to those of us involved in using Moodle for distance learning, not just brick and mortar institutions.

Good Afternoon,

Jason Cole of Open University will be presenting at the Moodle Moot in Savannah, GA coming up in February.  Though I can't speak for him directly, maybe he can be pursuaded to mention something about this.

Julian, great and interesting news about Moodle 1.6 and the Moodle CMS extension, and and ...

As a pull channel I propose a "Newsletter Sideblock" on moodle.org near the partners sideblocks (the growing promotion area in moodle.org wink promoting the newsletter. It should integrate a RSS feed with the table of contents. When I subscribe to the feed I stay informed about new issues.

A push channel is not necessary from my opinion. The newsletter will be so interesting and informative with it's short descriptions that all being interested will subscribe to not miss the new issues.

Urs

Thanks for all the great words of support. Glad you like the first issue.

I am already seeking articles for next month. You can help by sending:

- case studies
- Contrib project highlite articles
- Event reviews (ie Moodle Moots, etc)
- Anything else you think moodlers would like to read.

This community newsletter will only continue to be a success if the community gets behind it. So start sending me your submissions now to newsletter@moodle.org.

P.S. To those who allready sent and missed out on your article getting in this issue, stay tuned for the next smile

Make sure you send it to all you know who might be interested in Moodle and lets continue to spread the news.

Julian
