Thanks for the response. Yes, the escape was a typo when I removed our domain. Thanks for letting me know the [ is ok. I also looked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5034444/can-a-json-start-with which seems to indicate the same.
I'll move the question to the forum for my development environment (4d.com) and try to get things changed on that end.
