License key or other protection in SCORM

License key or other protection in SCORM

Probably not strictly a SCORM issue, but doubtless one of you will know...

How could we deliver SCORM packages to colleges in a way that prevents them being copied and used elsewhere (or perhaps time-limits their validity)?

I suppose I mean something like a license key that gets typed in to validate the package - but as a one-off for that moodle site (for  that hosting IP address, perhaps?) rather than for each moodle user on that site?

Does this exist, and are there perhaps SCORM authoring tools that can create it (or indeed software/services out there that can facilitate it)?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello Tony,

You noted; " (or perhaps time-limits their validity)?" in your post.

Adobe Captivate has a feature that will place an expiration date | time limit on a SCORM project.

https://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/using/projects-project-preferences.html

Project Expiry Date

Expiry date for the project. Click Calendar to choose a date. In the adjacent text box, specify the message to be displayed to users when the project expires. When a project expires, it can no longer be viewed.

This may also be found in other SCORM authoring tools as well.

Peace

You can use external AICC HACP (which Moodle supports in the SCORM module) - the packages are hosted/stored on your own servers and you provide the clients with an AICC package which links to your externally hosted content. You can then implement various checks on your own server to ensure the user is able to launch the package. It is a bit of work to set up but there might be some commercial off-the-shelf solutions that let you implement your own AICC content server.
