Uploading Flash Quiz inito moodle

Uploading Flash Quiz inito moodle

Hi

I have a zip file that contains numerous files which are swf type, when you hit start.exe the quiz loads fine allowing users to take each question and move backwards and forwards. However if I try to load up the quiz in Moodle it will not work. Even if I leave the whole folder zipped and the user has to unpack the folder themselves. I am new to moodle so would appreciate some "simple" help.

The folder when unzipped and tested out of moodle works fine.

I wouldn't upload it with a start.exe thing - normally these flash files come in a zipped folder which includes an index.html file and you can link to that. Read this documentation (direct link to the section) about Displaying a website index page .

I can't see anything below I'm afraid. Are you able to upload the zipped folder here or link to it online so I can check it? Or at least say where you have got it from - ie, which  program/company - as I know of a few programs that do Flash quizzes like this and I might perhaps be able to help.

Hi Marc,

It sounds like you have a package compiled/published as a "Flash projector" for Windows desktop environments (.exe files don't run on OS X or Linux). These are unsuitable for deployment in Moodle or the web in general.

As Mary has put it, if you can tell us more about where you got it from and/or how it was made, we may be able to find a solution or workaround to get it to work.

Hi Marc,

From looking at this document: http://qualifications.pearson.com/content/dam/pdf/Functional-skills/English/2010/Forms-and-administration/CBT-FS-Admin-Guide-2013-14.pdf it looks like these packages are designed to run on users' desktops, and I'm guessing that the package you have is a practice test or a past paper. Is that correct?

I've had some experience of using similar software and services from Cambridge English and they had some resources that were compatible with Moodle but not for the particular tests that we needed. I've also previewed some of Pearson's online services but haven't used them in courses.

All I can suggest is to contact Pearson/Edexcel to see if they have any packages that are compatible with Moodle and meet your learners' needs. Pearson do use Moodle, e.g. http://moodle.pearson.com/ , and they may have some materials and/or services that may be useful to you.

Maybe Mary or her colleagues have some experience with Pearson's software, systems, and/or services?

I hope this helps smile

Hi Mark and Matt - thanks for that reply Matt - I agree with what you say. I did download one and also came to the conclusion that it's not for a VLE. I *think* this is the link for the Pearson VLE Moodle downloadhttps://vle.pearson.com/auth/login but you have to have been given a code for that and it might just be for their online text books . It's possible those past papers are not meant to be put onto a Moodle . I have a vague memory of that site a few years ago helping out our MFL department who'd spent a lot of money on text books with Pearson having been told they had a Moodle pack  -only then for me to discover they didn't
