We're currently working to get both plugin versions compatible with 2.9. V2 should be out very soon but the file handling in v1 has had to be totally rewritten so it is still going through QA at the moment.

Using Moodle 2.9 and the new Direct plugin build 2015040109 and I have a problem with the student submission point.
it appears to have become 'letterbox' shaped with a height of 88px set in as an element style so not able to be changed in CSS
Firstly why is this hard coded as an element style rather than in the css files, and secondly how can I fix it?

This is set by Javascript but was removed from the latest version. You could try purging caches to see if that resolves the issue.
