Yes, I am testing this on Moodle 2.2 and its doesnt have the advanced settings that later versions of Moode have so I to know how moodle gets this data? I would have thought that it would look in the backup_logs and get this from the lastmodified timestamp and then compare it with the backup process in the cron to determine whether the course needs backing up
