I'm pleased to announce that MDL-49074 has now been integrated and is now a part of core:
2.8.5+ (Build: 20150313) - 2014111005.01
2.7.7+ (Build: 20150313) - 2014051207.01
MDL-46728 was integrated some weeks ago for M2.9.
This means that WOFF2 fonts can now be supported in themes using the 'font:theme' syntax in your CSS files (How to add custom fonts in a theme). Please ensure you update your Moodle to the version stated above or greater to make use of the functionality.
