I think it really depends on what you want and need.  I see a lot of 800 x 600 but I drop mine smaller because we have users with older monitors that can't display packages larger properly.

Hmm, maybe a good bet is to choose one of the HD "standards", especially the 720x480?. They are often referred to in terms of a p number like 720p etc.  Just found this blog here that systematizes some things, hopefully correctly smile

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=171390

I quote:

"720 pixel width is just SD video ('old school' DVD resolution  ). 720x480, using the 'p' designation, it's 480p.

SD = 480p (assuming progressive), 720x480 if using the full screen (aka, DVD)

'Full HD' = 1080p, 1920x1080 if using the full screen (aka, Blu-ray) (1920x[something smaller] if letterboxing is cropped off)

720p is an in-between resolution of HD (1280x720 if using the full screen, same as above). Frequently used for HD broadcast, but even those are now getting bumped up to 1080....

So a 1920x800, while technically isn't 1080 pixels high, is still considered '1080p' by most people, likewise for 720p and 480p. Though anything in the 720x480 range is usually just called SD."

Among other "standards" there's the mentioned 800x600 and more:

  • 640x480
  • 800x600
  • Small HD - 854 x 480
  • Medium HD - 1024 x 576
  • Full HD - 1280 x 720

Not sure all of this is relevant, but may be useful.

IF you want the scorm to be accessible on mobiles, maybe there is an option in your package to self adjust to the screen? This way if you use new window / pop-up window option especially, it should auto re-scale. iSpring Presenter can do this, for example.

I'm not really an expert on these things. The above are some notes I've made also for myself smile

We currently use 790x555, but keep in mind in Moodle, unless you are opening the SCORM package in it's own window, it will display your site's header. Ours is about 150 pixels vertically. It ends up looking like the below on an iPad sized 1024x768 screen:

SCORM Package on de Souza site

It means the site's footer isn't visible unless the person scrolls down also, since the default scormpage box won't shrink below 600 pixels vertically. I've experimented with trying to override that also, without much in the way of good results.
