online vs on my Mac

online vs on my Mac

I have Moodle installed on my mac and on my website.

I have been learning how to use Moodle on my Mac

Now I want to get the classes online.

My question is this;

should I continue to prepare the data in the Moodle on

my Mac and then load it into the online Moodle

or just start putting everything in Moodle online??

Thanks

Dennis

It really depends on your preferences. If your online Moodle works fine and your internet connection is good, then I would just do the work online and it is ready to go. If your internet connection is not so good then you can prepare your course offline on your Mac and then back it up and restore it to your online Moodle.

Greetings Mary,

Thanks for the information.

In the past doing it on the internet

has been PAINFULLY slow.

I just recently installed Moodle

to a separate self hosted site to see if that

will improve the speed.

I have been practicing with Moodle installed

on my computer and backing up the data.

Thanks

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Whether you're a proficient user or just getting started, I think it's a great idea to have your own local copy of Moodle to work on for a variety of reasons, which I've outlined some here: http://blog.matbury.com/2014/03/30/update-want-get-started-moodle/

Also, having your own online Moodle is useful for some similar reasons. I've looked at what's possible at a low-cost and for free here: http://blog.matbury.com/2014/08/23/free-low-cost-moodle-hosting-options/

Which remote hosting service are you using? What do you think of it?

I hope this helps! חיוך

Hi Dennis,

Something worth considering, if you haven't already, is that once you have user data (grades, forum discussions, etc.) on the remote course, you can no longer work locally on activities and update them with exports to the remote version.

I hope this helps! חיוך
