Hello,
We have a moodle site for our school and recently found that nobody can login.
It just bumps me back to the main screen with no error message.
I did read this:
"session file within the moodledata directory had to be changed from 0775 to 0777"
Did they mean the session folder? I don't have a file named "session" anywhere. Should I set the whole session folder to 0777?
Anything else to try?

So recently someone must have changed something, within Moodle or at the server.
Yes, try by setting the session folder permission to 0777.
You can also try and change from file to database handling. You don't mention what Moodle version (nor anything else about your setup), so, please see:

Can you tell just from the site? (www.freedommoodle.org) what version?
It's honestly been probably 3 years since I've touched the site, it kind of just runs itself. The hosting provider is no help, and I'm the administrator of the site and haven't made any changes lately.
I did change the permissions on the session folder, but what is equivalent to 0777? I just have a control panel and it's not UNIX based so does that mean read/write for everyone on that folder or just read?
How do I change it the settings from file to database? Is that in the config.php file?

Just by looking, no, but if I had to guess I'd say it's a 1.9.x version.
Yes, for a directory that means allow read, write and search.
So no maintenance? Well, that could be it.
Yes, in config.php, but only for versions 2.x
Thanks Guillermo, yeah I didn't see those options in my current version so I bet it's 1.9.x something.
I might try to do an in-place reinstall and see if that helps anything, maybe a file got messed up.
Or maybe doing an upgrade would fix something.
Any utilities out there that can be run without logging into your site first?
