Forums unusable in generic app in smartphone

Forums unusable in generic app in smartphone

I am not exactly sure where to post this, so I thought I'd start here.

Moodle.org forums just do not function well in my smartphone (iPhone 4).

There are two problems.

  1. Give 5 indents in the forum and it is too narrow to read.
  2. The editor does off the screen, looses focus

Is this a phone problem?  Is there a mobile theme in Moodle.org?  Is there an option to improve this with another combination of tools?

In Moodle 2.5 there are two, MyMobile & Clean themes, but in 2.6 you can use Clean theme as the default Mobile theme, or try Afterburner which is now responsive and should work just as well.

However, to answer your questions...

  1. You need to set you Forum to view Flat rather that nested as the nesting gets smaller and smaller and smaller ad infinitum as you have experienced. The setting for the different views can be found at the top of each discussion thread, in other words the first post of the discussion.
  2. Depends on which version of Moodle and to some extent the theme too, but could also be your phone.

Cheers

Mary, thanks.

My question was specifically about MoodlE.org.

The editor is nearly unusable. It scrolls left and right.

Oooo...scary!

There is something wrong with Moodle.org's Clean theme as it does not appear to have the fixes that I added some time ago to the Moodle's master branch, so perhaps they have a different version?

I suppose you would be better reporting the Editor issue in Moodle Tracker as an MDLSITE bug.

Cheers

The indenting problem is reported as a bug:

MDL-40343 Forum posts display oddly when deeply nested

There's a fix there if anyone wants to apply it to their own sites.
