customising Clean theme in 2.6

Hi

I have just upgraded our moodle site from 1.9-2.6 and am in the process of customising a new theme working on the clean theme. The structure is very different and I'm unsure which file I need to edit. Can anyone help or point me in the direction to get help with this.

Many thanks

Jayne

Hi Jayne,

The 'Readme.txt' file that comes with 'Clean' contains all of those details.

Cheers,

Gareth

I don't know if that's going to help someone jumping all the way from 1.9 to 2.6. Possibly the 1.9 -> 2.6 changes are as big as the changes from Standard to Clean.

Some useful questions might be:

Have you built any other Moodle 2.X themes, or just Moodle 1.X?

Are you familiar with Bootstrap?

What level of customisation are you aiming for? Just adding a logo and changing a few colors, or trying to match an existing look?

There's quite a lot of info in the Wiki, but it's not always well organised.

It's hard to know where to start without more info but, for example, are you aware that most small customisations can be done simply by pasting the CSS into the theme settings?

HI David

No I haven't built any 2 themes only 1.9. I have had a look into bootstrap however am a little lost as to where you can edit change layout etc.

I ideally want to add few more elements then simply adding a logo change colours.

here is our existing 1.9 site.

http://moodle.wmsf.ac.uk/wmsfmoodle

I want something clean and striking -  will most likely change colours, possibly logo etc.

The themes are very different.

Hi Jayne,

If you go to Site Administration > Appearance > Themes >> at this point you will see a listed of all the names of themes that have custom settings. In this list of links click on 'Clean' and this will take you to a page where you can add a Logo, add CSS that will restyle the header, and also customise the footer.

Before making any changes you will need to enable  Theme Designer Mode

To make the changes in Clean that will make it begin to look like your main site you would need to first upload the the same logo image that forms part of the site header. Then add the following CSS into the Custom CSS box provided in that same page.

a.logo { height: 170px;}

Don't forget to Save those settings

Once saved you will be able to see those changes.

Of course this is only a small part of the changes. The next would be the font colours or heading sizes. All of which can be done using CSS.

Hope this helps?

Cheers

Mary
