Backup restore of courses don't work for users nor data

Hi all:

We are an association migrating from one Moodle site (Moodle version 1.9.19+ (Build: 20120831)) to a new one in another server (Moodle version 2.4.3+ (Build: 20130425)).

The problem we have is that we don't have access to the old server, but just have admin accounts in that site. So we need to make the migration through backups of the courses and restore in the new one (where we have access to the server administration).

What happens to us is that when we restore a full backup of a course (all data, users, etc., were included in the zip backup file), no users nor data are restored.

Moreover, if we make a backup of an existing course in the new Moodle site (2.4.3), and then try to restore it in the same 2.4.3 site, it doesn't restore the data!

I made a restoration of the same course backup taken from the old Moodle site (1.9.19+) into another Moodle site (1.8.5 (Build: 20080409)) in which I have admin access (not server access), and it restored all forum data, wiki data and files, and created all users that were present in the backup course file but not present in that Moodle site (1.8.5).

Thanks in advance for any clue on what is the problem.

Hello there. Well, a 1.9 course cannot be backed up and restored into a Moodle 2 site with user data. You would have to either upgrade the whole 1.9 site or else backup and restore the courses with user data into a new 1.9 site, upgrade that to 2.2 and then back up and restore those courses into your 2.4. (I am not sure why your 2.4 courses don't restore  into the same 2.4 site with user data. Are you definitely restoring as admin?) Please see Course backup

Well. It seems I did something wrong, but restoration inside the 2.4 Moodle site of backed up courses from that same site works perfectly!

I didn't know that we can't restore courses from 1.9 directly to 2.4, though...

Rafael, if you mean 'Restore from 1.9 into 2.4 WITH user data', I have wondered this also.  Recently Tim has given an answer here: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=227816#p989743 in short, it's just too complex, and no-one is willing to spend our precious programming hours on this.
