Rubric for feedback

Rubric for feedback

Our instituion is due to upgrade to Moodle 2.4 in the next few months and I've been asked if rubrics can be used without marks having being assigned to them (i.e use them to provide formative feedback to non-assessed pieces of coursework).

In testing this, I've found that I can set the assignment to 'no grade' and can also turn off the points for each level of the criteria in the rubric... however...

If I do this, the student doesn't seem to see the teachers response unless there is also add an overall comment (criteria based comments alone aren't visible).  Is this correct?  If so, it's probably not the end of the world as most would want to add overall comments anyway.

The bigger problem is that student always sees the submission status listed as 'not graded' (see attached screen shot which) - even though they can see the feedback that's been given by the Teacher (though like I say, this seems to assume an overall comment is also in place).

Am I just misunderstanding how this feature works?

Thank you in advance!

Lisa
