Hello Everyone!

Asking for suggestions about software to run a newspaper kind of site.

Need the following (if not right away, will need it in the near future):

  1. Roles - Reporters may suggest and/or write news but only two or three people will have the ability to actually publish on site.
  2. All reporters should need to sign in to send stories in for review.
  3. Ability to add videos (short) and auditory coverage of news (like interviews, question and answer stuff).
  4. Ability to use "chat" from time to time.
  5. Ability to use "forums" from time to time.
  6. Ability to make articles printer friendly
  7. Way to connect reporter blogs to site so reporters can interact with readers (if the reporters want to) in their own blogs.
  8. Ability to have articles "archive" atumatically into categories.
  9. Allow for different types of advertiseing - For example, banner, column, between forum posts, chatroom etc....
  10. Ability to place "classifieds"
  11. Ability to create and design custom sections.
  12. Ability to create polls with or without comments area.
  13. Good article search capabilities.
  14. Ability to accept from other sites RSS feeds and to provide different RSS feeds from the site.
  15. Security, security, security!!! 微笑

Any suggestions??

Quark (http://www.quark.com/solutions/newspaper/) is way too expensive.  Is there anything like it in Open Source??

Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

Drupal, or another CMS or blog software? Mambo, Nucleus, Geeklog, B2evolution?

I think Mambo probably matches your needs and is the easiest to install/use. Plone is more powerful but is harder to handle. I spent about three months evaluating all of the CM systems and unfortunately none of them are perfect and they all have various drawbacks that don't become apparrent until you use them extensively. Security could be a bit of an issue with most of them though.

Momabo is the best match but you need to integrate moodle in Mmabo and not the other way around..

We use Postnuke with the Paged Module for that here. Had to hack paged a bit to enable video.

See http://news.humboldt.edu for an example.

IMO, Audun's Netpublish module is looking like a great way to get this functionality going in Moodle (most of the CMS's we've looked, the code is no where near as well designed as Moodle's), we'll be working on this this summer, I think.
