Thanks for your post

I shall continue to bother with the official My Moodle app as it works on my iPad and yours does not. The other apps may have limited functionality but yours has none. It reports that the admin has not enabled web services and yet My Moodle and all my other "amateur developed" Moodle apps are functioning perfectly well

.

What is your money back policy?

Cheers

Hi Richard,

There's no need to do any webservice settings on Moodle to use our apps, except that you have to install the web service files downloaded from our website at http://massmedia.hk/download.

But please make sure that you have our latest version of 2.0.0 apps which are coming on the app store. I have made an announcement of peeking the functions of our coming version. 2.0.0 and it is not launched yet, so why do you complain of its functions. Which version of our apps have you pruchased? Are you one of the teams from the other party? Sorry, if you are. Really sorry for "amateur".

If you have the official app that connect to your site, I'm sure our version 2.0.0 can access much more blocks and modules. Do your My Moodle app supports blocks? modules? Wait a second, is it an iPad app? No, it's an iPhone app only. Just uploading audios and files, and that's it. What else that you feel "functioning perfectly well"? So, watch out for our 2.0.0 version. The best is to compare all apps on both Moodle 1.9.x and 2.x versions and you will see what an app could give you.

But please be as calm as more educators and teachers do. No need to be so exagerrated.  This is the first time I am announcing that our apps start to support the version 2.0.0 partially, not as widely as Moodle 1.9.x. But this first time supports should give you a lot more than what you have from your My Moodle non-ipad app. I hope you would agree, but this is totally subjective. So, the best solution is wait --- for our launching date of 2.0.0.

Hello

Possibly I was hasty but your app store requirements don't make any mention of requiring the admin to install your webservices - that will be to be misleading for students who purchase the app.  It is also possible that a cautious admin would decline to install your plugin - the email in your app is likely to cause a little friction there thoughtful.

I'm happy to give your product a fair go, please let me know when it is ready for 2.3 big grin.

I'm not on any other development team but your attitude did make me a bit angry and probably coloured my judgement.  A lot of people give up a lot of their time to develop and support products - many of which are open source just like Moodle.  Amateur, strictly speaking, is not a term of abuse but it does have that flavour these days.

Good luck with your project. approve.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your advice regarding possibility of student purchasing the app and the requirements needed. We are now working on it in case the Apple suddenly launches our apps.

FYI, our version 2.0.0 is ready for all versions of Moodle, including 2.3.x, but temporarily with partial functions supported.

Thanks God, You are not on other team. Sorry for "colouring your judgement".

Regarding amateur developer, I actually admire them. I think we both here at Moodle just because it's an open source and the codes are open to modifications. It's good that amateur developer can try to build some apps, but iOS is no php stuff. I have come across with many IT teachers at colleges and learn that they even can't build a simple iOS app practical enough for themselves.

Certainly, we can play around in iOS or even learn to build apps, create some php Moodle blocks or modules. They are easy to do and no real difficulties.

But trust me, even one message system on the app that works with Moodle "message" dbase may take up months or years for amateur to build, and even more "difficult" to learn to "debug".

Like the old days users spent most time working "on" Windows or computer hardware, and they are not actually working "with" computers, until the age of Mac OS. For teachers, I would advise creating more contents and better sequence of activities for students as our foremost mission in education.

Frankly speaking, I admire some teachers who can keep a good structure of Moodle courses with frequent updates in contents, and at the same time, contribute most of their spare time in Moodle development and even answering forums here.

I've been teaching for more than 30 years. I designed and created more than a thousand book publishers interactive CD's. I would always place the benefits of students in the first place. They should deserve a better and promising app developer (just like Steve Job's Apple and Mac) for their Moodle site.

J. Chan,

I've now downloaded every app available for the iPad (I think) including your iMoodle app (7/1/12) and am very sad to see that none of them support playback of mp4 (video or audio) files. The iMoodle app won't even recognize mp3's attached to forums sad I don't understand what the issue is but it seems to be a very consistent one across all tools for accessing Moodle via an iPad or iPhone.

I did manage to upload an audio file using the Moodle (MyMoodle) app in mp4 format but can't play it using anything on my iPhone/iPad. I can attach it to a forum post but it won't play. sad Of course I have no problem playing the file on a MacBook Air, iMac, etc. but not on a mobile device.

Is there a reason for not being able to do this on the iPad/iPhone? I'm hoping that I have a filter setting turned off or something but I don't think so...

Jason

P.S. Oops, sorry I should have specified by version - Moodle 2.2.2+

Re: Free school custom branding for one year BEFORE 31st Aug 2012

by J. Chan -

Hi Jason,

See if you can playback the mp4 file on your Safari of your desktop. If it can't play it on your Moodle 2.2.x, that's NOT new to us.

I added a mp4 file on two servers, one 1.9.x, and the other 2.3.x. For 1.9.x, you can see that file here at http://massmedia.hk/moodle/course/view.php?id=2

Please use our iMoodle, click the DEMO and then massmedia.hk. Go to mPage course, then on the 1st section, "What is mPage?", you can see the "Movie sample" ( Movie sample file) played immediately on iMoodle.

For Moodle 2.3.x, with our iMoodle, click DEMO, then Moodle 2.3.x DEMO with Student account, on "My Courses" tab, you see "Testing course", enter the course, click "Topic 1" > then "Testing movie" > error (here we shall improve it in the next version) > but try to click "continue" > "Testing course" (sorry!, we'll improve it in the next version) > "Testing movie" > now, you can see the "play" button > click "play" > bingo!

Compare and you see the difference. iMoodle supports Moodle 1.9.x much better than Moodle 2.3.x on iPhone. But actually, iMoodle can still supports Moodle 2.3.x on iPhone. However, on Moodle 2.2.x, I would advise you to test if the mp4 file can be played on a desktop browser, e.g. Mac Safari. If it canNOT be played, fix your server first.

Cheers

James

J. Chan,

Thanks for the quick reply and for the example. I see that the video that you added to the demo plays but I am still unable to get an mp4 video or mp4 audio file to play via my version of iMoodle. And I am, of course, able to play the same video and audio file via my desktop using both Safari and Firefox.

I will check my server environment to see if anything is missing (JSON ?) but again, I have no trouble playing the files on my desktop.

Sincerely

Jason

J. Chan,

Sorry, I meant to get back here sooner. I did check my server and JSON is installed so I can't attribute that to the problem.

Like I mentioned in my previous message, the mp4 video that I put up on my site (in a forum post) plays without issue on my desktop browser (Firefox and Safari) but it will not play on my iPad using iMoodle. I also cannot get mp3 files to play using iMoodle either which seems odd...?

Jason

P.S. Now when I try to access the web link you have provided here, I get the follwing error message:

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

and I can no longer login to the massmedia.hk server (Client Demo).

Hi Jason,

I tried to log in at massmedia.hk with our iPad app through the DEMO button using the account "Client Demo".

Entering the course, mPage and the third resource "Video Demo".

Please check out the screenshot and the video playing is normal.

J. Chan,

My apologies. I just tried again and was able to "get in" and view the video. I still don't know however, why the video I have on my site (and mp4 audio) will not play through the iMoodle app...?

Are there any specific requirements for the video formats? (mp4)

Sincerely

Jason

P.S. As I mentioned before, the video and audio files play without issue on my desktop/laptop via Safari and Firefox.

Hi Jason,

No specific requirement.

Can you playback your mp4 files on your iPad Safari?

Re: Free school custom branding for one year BEFORE 31st Aug 2012

James,

Thanks. No, I just tried using Safari on my iPad and I can see the movie window but I see a play button with a round circle and line through it indicating that it can't be played. I checked my site and noticed that the html5 filters were not enabled so I enabled them but that didn't change anything.

Is is possible that the encoding method I used for my videos is incorrect? I used a video conversion program called Wondershare Ultimate.

Hmm, but the audio file I uploaded was recorded on my iPhone using the Moodle.org MyMoodle app and it doesn't play either....I'm confused.

Any advice/help you can provide will be appreciated.

Regards

Jason

Hi Jason,

FYI, some video conversion don't create videos playable by most broswers or os. Most mp4 videos can be played on iOS devices, but I would recommend m4v instead. Videos recorded on iOS devices are quicktime movies, and so you can convert them with quicktime. Regarding audios, our apps can record audios and played back on iOS devices. Alternatively, you can play mp3 on iOS devices, but m4a is also recommended.
