I would have thought someone would have answered you before now, but busy few days for me.. sorry.

Helen is quite right, there are a number of things you need to check first, but given there is no answers forthcoming can you provide us with some more information. I cannot access the link you have given either, your own security prevents me from going to it, and I am not going to bother to use FTP to look.

You are using a v2.x, kind of hard to say which one, but they often come with the Algebra and Tex Notation filters off, so you might want to go and turn them on first, if you have not already done so.

The native TeX fallback is sufficient to do a number of things, but for a lot of things it is inadequate. I would seriousy recommend you install TeXLive, for latex and dvips binaries and either ImageMagik or GhostScript for the convert binary. This is for a number of reasons, but essentially, you have much greater control over what is produced and the range of what you can produce is greater as well - as long as you use the LaTeX preamble appropriately.

There is also this set of Moodle docs, Using TeX Notation, which at first glance, may not seem to help at all, but usually people find things that have been included actually help resolve some of the problems they may be having.  

There is also the plugin that Mauno K has been developing, called SEE, Super Equation Editor. While it is not yet core, I can see it being so in the not too distant future. You can get a look at it here and if you get really interested, make some additional contribution if you like.
