FYI

Hello All!

For those untested in working on "usability", I thought this was an interesting article. Hopefully, we can have some discussion on it.

Usability Is Next to Profitability
Software companies have finally grasped the value of easy-to-fathom programs, and they're pouring resources into the task

WP1, I recommend a book to you, "The inmates are running the asylum", by Alan Cooper, which deals with this subject. It's light read, both entertaining and educating. (I mentioned this earlier but it might have gotten lost in the sea of all those usability comments)

Even though some Microsoft (amongst others) products seem to behave in a brain-dead fashion, they (amongst with other big software companies) do burn millions and millions on the subject of usability. But no amount of money can buy them the wisdom to make 1) programs that suit everybody or 2) programs that make very complex things a whizz to do.

Thanks Samuli, David S and Frances.

I have already downloaded the PDF.  It is a 29 page double spaced document.  I will be reading it this weekend.  I am also looking for the book, but I may not be able to get to read it until spring break (if not too much work is due at school smile).
