I blacked out my site too. Not that that would make much of an impact. It's great to see Wikipedia get behind and they've been campaigning ceaslessly.
But no blackout from Google, Facebook or Twitter? Have they forgotten where they came from? (Putting a link to an online petition is just another bit of advertising for Google et al). Hopefully, they're doing something more productive with their immense resources to protect the internet.
I think all these bills need is a little sunlight on them and some public debate and they'll be dead in the water.
I thought Google blacking out their own logo was better than nothing, but I agree that it certainly would have been a far more powerful message if they'd gone completely dark. I did have many individual facebook friends who took the day off reading/posting, but that was so much less visual than the blackout that Wikipedia did.
Did you see the page of students complaining that they couldn't do their homework with Wikipedia blacked out?
I think SOPA and PIPA are dead today, but bound to simply come back under other names in the future. The very sponsors of the bills don't seem to have the faintest idea what they mean, let alone any idea what their impact might be.
On the "black hat" side of the equation, today "Anonymous" has apparently managed to take down the US Department of Justice, the RIAA, the MPAA, and Universal Music sites in protest of the takedown of Megaupload and the arrest of several of their employees:
