After Assignment what would you suggest next.

After Assignment what would you suggest next.

Hi, I am the main teacher using Moodle at my secondary school (Age 11 to 18). I have used the Assignments tool a lot with my classes, but I would like to start using some other functionality of Moodle.

What would other teachers recommend is easy for me and the kids, which will have a wow factor?

Thanks,

Nick

Hi NIck! Gosh -where to start? Are you using 1.9 or 2? Either way I have found my pupils like best activities where they can join in -so get them adding to a glossary or database - building up a common course key term bank (can include images) An alternative is peer assessment -again another Big Thing in  UK schools. The easy way of peer assessment is a forum and get them to upload stuff they have done and they can comment on (and if you set it, rate) each other's efforts. If you have Moodle 2 you  can do it using the Workshop module but that is quite complex to set up so if you just want a quick fix, it wouldn't initially be suitable.

Well - a start - I would be in danger of writing loads so I will stop there and give others a chanceདགའ་འཛུམ་ It would help if we knew what version of Moodle you use  -and also which type of assignment you prefer.

Hi Mary,

You mentioned the Workshop module which I agree is overly complicated and difficult to use. I've found the peer-review plugin for the Assignment module much easier to use and works well for even quite small numbers of learners.

I haven't used Moodle 2.x for teaching yet so perhaps you know of something similar for that version?

@Nick - This book's pretty good: http://www.packtpub.com/moodle-1-9-teaching-techniques/book

Section 4 of "Using Moodle" http://moodle.org/course/view.php?id=5 is all about "Moodle for Teaching".

Thank you for the recommended reading, which I will spend some time looking at, but I was after other teachers recommendations as to what they find useful in their lessons as opposed to 'how to' guides.
