Hi,

We found Mahoodle a great experience and we are considering using Mahara for the next academic year (2012/13) with Moodle 2.3.

I would like to ask you if you could please help me pointing me out to the main issues considering this plan...

I could understand that repository plugin needs funding:

... and that there is a problem with exporting valid leap2a xml file:

... but I could not understand if MNET will be an issue:

and if there's any other known issues...

Hi Susana,

We've done quite a bit of Moodle-Mahara networking and on the whole it works. There's a setup guide at https://wiki.mahara.org/index.php/System_Administrator%27s_Guide/Moodle//Mahara_Integration which is also worth a read.

I've occasionally seen issues relating to MNet but only occasinally, and usually once it's up and running it's fairly stable and works if you don't tinker with it too much.

There's also a mahara forum specifically dicussing mahoodle integration at http://mahara.org/interaction/forum/view.php?id=30

As far as I know, the plan is to still allow Moodle and Mahara to connect to each other, but it will use a different (hopefully better, more robust, more standard) protocol than MNet.  Of course, that depends on someone actually doing the work to create the new protocol...

I think we're also hoping that when the new protocol arrives, it should be possible to (relatively) easily update both Moodle and Mahara to use the new mechanism.

I think that it could well be a manual reconfiguration to the new protocol rather than something automated but we won't know til:
* the protocol has been decided upon;
* the Moodle part is in place; and
* the Mahara part is in place.

Ultimately though there should be no harm to sticking with MNet until the new protocol appears,

Hi,

Ok, I understand now that I don't have to worry about MNet and the future of Mahara-Moodle integration on a user/admin perspective, right? Mnet won't be off until we have a good replacement.

But if I needed to customize the plug-in... in that case I should wait for more information about the new MNet replacement.

You should probably have mentioned what it says in your profile i.e.

"I work for Catalyst IT in New Zealand and am primarily involved with the e-portfolio software Mahara."

So responding to that survey will potentially influence people who matter in the development of Mahara
