Since you mention that article I would like to point out that Reynold completely invented those quotes attributed to me surprise ... I would never have said those things! liūdnas

Apart from that, yes, New Zealand rocks. rodantis dantis

Reynold claims that a stunned Martin said, "Moodle is like Linux!"  And yes, I remember Martin saying that "Moodle is the OS of education!".  Isn't it fun to iconize, heroize, and make believe in the name of a good and true story? (you know, like the Bible)  Oops!  I completely did not say that.

Seriously, culture-building is not just press releases, but touching the nerve of change in our life together.  Sounds like that happened in NZ.

Scallywag!  I doubt I said "Moodle is the OS of education", but I know I said it is evolving towards being like an operating system for online education.

>>I doubt I said "Moodle is the OS of education"

Of course not, I said it! mirkt You are far too modest to say things like that. besišypsantis

What I was getting at is the process of community culture-building at work. As vision for our efforts is articulated, slogans, icons and stories get created and the ones that stir our hearts persist. It often becomes unclear who said what. And it doesn't matter. As long as the story is true and good.

Here are some things that you completely did not say.
"Moodle is like Linux"
"Moodle is the OS of education"
"Blogs are one-way streets, Moodle is the city plan"
Any more?

Actually, though these slogans can help us internally to move mountains, Martin is right to act more humbly externally. To the big commercial world, words like "there are many fish in the sea" or "there is a place for all kinds of products" are much more innocent. Better to let sleeping dogs lie.

I'll be going to Wellington, New Zealand in April. I don't suppose that there will be any moodlers there then? Bit late...

Quite a few of the technical type people (server/hosting companies like Catalyst) are based in Wellywood if that helps! Try e-mailing Gary Banner, he can probably put you in touch with them.

Tim! Come down to Catalyst for a visit if you're coming to Wellington. You'll even get to know the legendary foosball table where we exercise... Penny is starting to beat me at foos, something must be wrong here besišypsantis

Slogans - how about "Moodle is the language of online education".

I'm starting to see that Moodle is taking on aspects of protocols.  Moodle is the agreed upon language between the instructor and the student.

Using "OS" reminds me of Microsoftevil. Not good, bad taste in mouth etc.

Using "language" good, world peace, inner tranquility smile

Hmm...early adopters?

We started in November 2002 and I know a lot of other people were into moodle before that.

He's talking more about the country adopting Moodle... Government interest/involvement etc.  The interest from all over NZ is quite strong especially considering the size of it (about 4 million people).

People using Moodle in 2002 and 2001 know what early really means, though. rodantis dantis
