Hi Moodlers!

Just in case you were wondering, the reason that the number of registered moodle sites has dropped is because I am doing some of the periodic maintenance that the registry needs, such as cutting out unreachable sites.  Of course, I try and find out if the site is still alive under a different address before I remove it, and if it is then I amend the entry.

It is rather a time consuming job now, with ~2500 sites, but I'm getting there (slowly...)

Hi Sean,

what a tedious job! Thanks!

Only one comment about the Sites page. Shouldn't it be paged? It's getting enormous! クール

Hi Sean!

Isn't there some kind of script that would help you automate the process.  Maybe even send out automated "Are you still there" messages to the webmasters of these sites.

Hi WP,

Martin has just customised the interface for me which makes life a bit easier when adding sites.

I have a link checker tool which gives me a list of dead addresses...I then check each one in case a.) The tool got it wrong and b.) The site has simply moved URLs slightly (happens often)...then I amend or remove the entry as appropriate.  I suppose a lot of this could be automated, but doing it mostly by hand like this means the list is more accurate.

I use Argus to monitor site health and uptime.  Are you using somthing like that?

No, I don't do it in real time...with the number of sites we have in the registry now, that would be a pain.

I have started using a tool called XENU to check the links every now and again.  In addition to dead links, it also tells me if sites have moved URLs and are being redirected.
