I have tried to install Nanogong for Moodle 2.0, but did not succeed:

Plugin "mod_nanogong" is defective or outdated, can not continue, sorry.

Debug info: Missing version value in version.php
Stack trace:
    • line 418 of /lib/upgradelib.php: plugin_defective_exception thrown
    • line 265 of /lib/upgradelib.php: call to upgrade_plugins_modules()
    • line 1352 of /lib/upgradelib.php: call to upgrade_plugins()
    • line 290 of /admin/index.php: call to upgrade_noncore()
Afterwards I saw that Julian Ridden actually have posted a comment with a warning at the plugin page: "Sadly this was built for a very early pre-release alpha version of moodle and no longer works in the current release."

Does anybody here know anything about this issue?

Hi Bente. AFAIK - JR is correct. This plugin is not currently compatible with 2.0. Code in contrib is 16 months old, so, sadly this project may have fallen by the wayside. If anyone else knows the status of nanogong for 2.0 - pls post an update via this thread.

I wrote to the Nanogong folks and they do not anticipate any further development on the Nanogong Moodle code. It is not compatible with Moodle 2.0; however, if someone wants to create a 2.0 version for it they could start by reviewing Development:Migrating_contrib_code_to_2.0. Is any one interested in picking up development work on the nanogong activity module? Peace - Anthony

Does anybody know if there's any news on this. We're about to make the move from moodle 1.9.x to 2.1, but A LOT of our teachers are using the nanogong. Would be a real shame to see it go. Or are there any alternatives to the nanogong?

Kasper - As I understood it, from chats with the Gong folks - they were no longer actively maintaining the Nanogong project and not interested in doing a Moodle 2.0 version. I know there is interest in various voice recording type plugins but I am not sure what I would recommend at the moment. If you find something, do let us know. Peace - Anthony

The current discussion takes place in the Language Teaching forum at Voice Applications and more specifically at Release of NanoGong 4.1, an important update for Moodle users.
