I am very excited by this project. Now with both the Moodle theme addition by Moodle4iPhone as well as this app based approach users really can find the tool that best suits them.
My only feedback with the app, and I am purely being picky here, is I would like to see some nicer design elements. This is an issue with iPhone apps in general. All te black and grey. Get creative. See if we can make this any more engaging
I like the button options at the bottom. Can't wait to finally install and have a play with it.

Ali- I purchased and downloaded this app, but was unable to see my classes. I logged into my server with a variety of usernames and nothing. I noticed that on the Apple store site for mTouch others have had this problem. Any ideas?

I have purchased this app, I can log on and see my courses but I cannot see the content of the forums. It says that there are no posts. I can see the title of the posts but when I touch it to read it, it won't allow me to.
Also, I am a Teacher in the course but I cannot see my admin panel.
I am looking forward to having the kinks worked out as this will be a great app if it works!

Thanks for the feedback and purchasing mTouch. We have clearly stated on the AppStore and on our site that mTouch supports only student operations for the time being. So if you want to administer your course as the teacher I'm soorry but you can not do that with mTouch yet.

and send us your site url and a demo account so that we can see what is wrong with mTouch.

Thanks for your work on this. I've had a bit of a play - app looks good on surface. Agree with JR, styling could be nicer. Also, perhaps providing an iphone theme that is consistent with the app theming - so this can be selected at a site, category, course or user level. The 'other' iPhone project will give you some good theming ideas.

On another note, is the mTouch app a 'sign of the times' with respect to Moodle contributed code? This is the first time I've had to directly pay for a third-party Moodle plugin. This follows the Joomla model where non-core developers have freedom to commercialise their extensions and the community has a choice to stick to core or pay for quality extensions. In fact, the quality of third-party development, support and documentation is obvious over at Joomla, particularly with the commercial extensions.
I totally respect the fact that all developers deserve to be paid for their time, contributions. On the same token, I recognise Moodle's business model (ie Trust and Partners) is somewhat different to Joomla. Excuse me if I've overlooked something in all this. What do other people think, know?

My understanding is that the app actually builds upon Firefox for Mobile (the "native" app is actually a customized browser that makes viewing Moodle pages via iphone OS easier/simpler).

mTouch does not actually build on Firefox on Mobile. As I stated in my blog post it is just a customized browser and just applies some heuristics to change layering of Moodle content. Actually mTouch does not render content just arranges the layer.

Nice idea for an app - needs work as discussed above - but a good start.
There appears to be a bug when attempting to open documents (Word, PDF). These open fine in the same course in safari on an iphone, but do not open in this app.
I just get "Loading Resources Info" pop up, then go away again.

Which version of mTouch you are using. With mTouch 1.1 we have resolved that problem and verified the resolution with some people using mTouch.

We also have a problems with the Mtouch. We do not use topics or weekly course format.
We use the page format so to view any of our content we need to click on the resources.
Anyway of changing that?

I have exactly The same problem, I did What you told to someone, update mTouch but it says same, about Session Key
- Can't upload an Assignment file

- Can't upload an Assignment file : We can discuss more about this problem. This may have many causes, one may be policies another may be temporary network access problem and so on. But mTouch is tested against the http://demo.moodle.net and we know that assignments module is supported properly by mTouch
- Could not take a Quiz activity from iPhone : Please check out our features page from www.moodletouch.com . We have clearly stated there, thanks to Ron, that Quizzes module is not supported to the full extent.
- Could not take or display a Lesson activity from iPhone : Same as the previous one
- Where's the course calendar? : Course calendar = Upcoming Events as stated in demo.moodle.net. But we may change the naming if you believe that Course Calendar is the standard name.
- Interface is not very intuitive - app has a beta feel. : Our interface follows the IPhone design guidelines and the naming convention follows demo.moodle.net. Can you specify exactly what you mean by beta feel? Color scheme? Positions of the actionable items? Main application flow? Menu organization?
- Are students going to pay $3 for this - seems a bit on the high side IMO : We have custom branding options for institutions and our unit price is up to 65% percent lower for the custom branding plans, which means we are able to provide mTouch for that magic 0.99 USD price. I am finding it difficult to use- I can see it being useful for students- but as a class teacher I do not have access to groups or courses for which I am an administrator but not a student.
Experience suggests that for this to be successful it needs to be owned by teachers first before the students. It's a bit lime turning up to a disco but the dj has forgotten their records!

We clearly stated that mTouch only supports students for the time being. Support for teacher operations may be implemented after Moodle 2.0 is released and matures a little bit.
I think that current Moodle implementation has lots of technical challanges for client tool developers. I guess these difficulties will be covered with Moodle 2.0 and more mobile moodle tools will exist.
I guess with mTouch as a teacher you now have the option to answer your students questions regarding IPhone app for moodle.

Flash support is a restriction imposed by apple so we Will not be able to support Flash until apple decides so. By the way Html5 Will decrease the need for Flash some time later.
The peoblems you mentioned regarding lessons and quzes will be implemented later, we the Limited support clearly i guess. May be with moodle 2.

This was a known bug of mTouch 1.1.
mTouch 1.2 is on the AppStore and you can update your installation.

By the way I would recommend to check the Site URL you provide to mTouch. If you perform redirects from the welcome page or login page, it is crucial that you provide the actual url of your moodle instance.

If your login page is behind https but your content is served from http:// pelase select/check "Content is behind http://" which can be found under Moodle Connection Settings collapsable region in mTouch-U login page

mTouch does not have full quiz support for now, you can only see the list and attempts.
We will implement full quiz support once Moodle 2.0 becomes the main Moodle stream version.

Hopefully they can change the layout of MTouch, so it will be more approachable to user, I am just been concern with it, but in the usage, it is real terrific. It works great with me even I am using Bluetooth iphone keyboard.
