Especially for Moodle 2.0 re-factoring.
3rd-party modules may need their own pictures folder. Is there a recommended naming convention for that folder? Can/should we use the pix folder or another one named images OR pics OR pictures etc?

So, /mod/modulename/pix/. You put the default images there, but the theme can then override them if it chooses to.
