That is precisely what I am talking about Ben, the first paragraph you propose is much clearer. But, I suspect that the terms "metacourse" and "child course" themselves will need to change for there to be any serious improvement in the perceptions of metacourses.
As for the S3, have not got that far yet, still trying to get around S2... From the outset this also seems OK but the last sentence is an assertion that will need an example or two I think.
