Martin...
Quick question for you about the logs. I love how I can see when and from where my students are logging in from. My question is about the IP address that I can see on the log screen. When I click on the IP, another window opens up and I am getting an error that says "Could not find element CITY". Since I do not know what should be happening here...I am having trouble diagnosing the cause of this error. Any insights?
Susan
Hi,
Yes, I get that too sometimes. The error is produced by the ipatlas program which is embedded in Moodle. It looks up the IP at an internet server and finds city, country and lat/long. Sometimes the lookup fails (for various reasons) and that's the error you get.
When it works you should see something like the attached screenshot I just took.
I should hack ipatlas some more so that it isn't so cryptic.
Cheers,
Martin

That's neat, but I have not gotten it to work for me yet.
Are you located behind a firewall/proxy by any chance?
If so check in the Moodle configs to make sure you set the proxy name and port there.

Yes...that would probably be the answer. I am behind a PIX firewall at work. I have never tried clicking on the IP from home, where I have no firewall, but I will check that later today.
Thanks.
Thanks.
No no, the firewall is blocking your Moodle server from talking to that external site. It won't matter where your browser is located.

Doh! Thanks, would have driven me crazy trying to figure that one out. That would be why I'm a database programmer and not a web developer or a network admin.
