HELP Which option do i pick for questionnaire?

I'm having a senior moment, and i can't quite get my head around this problem.

We are having a collapsed timetable day soon, and my students will have to pick the activities listed at the bottom of this post by voting for them.

Historically the students have been given the choice of ranking  4 of them, and this has been done on paper and collated with difficulty.

I thought there "has to be an IT solution to this in moodle", and therefore installed the Questionnaire module and inputted the list as a "rank" question.

Heres my problem.. If i pick a "normal" or "N/A" as the rating choice then they can rate 2 activities as 2nd choice.

If i pick "no duplicates" they have to rate all 19 activities in order.

Is there a middle ground... by rating only 4 of them...

I don't mind modding Questionnaire, for a short while as there are no other questionnaires in use on my moodle server

The list is.

Air craft, gliders & model making
Fishing
Art Department - Create a Mural
PE - Carousel of Sports Activities
Gardening
Hair, Skin care & Beauty
MAKING computer Games
Food - Sweet making
Drama
Tye-dye and bag making
Musical Theatre
Guitar
Recording Studio
Games Workshop
Police Action
Hanley Museum Visit
First Aid course
Science Museum Visit
Pizza Express

Hi Martin,

The problem is that you want a question type which would do 2 things: select 4 choices out of 19 possibilities and rank those 4 selections. I'm afraid that is not possible with Questionnaire.

If you don't mind using an independent Survey (outside of Moodle) I recommend the excellent open source LimeSurvey. From this forum discussion it seems that what you want might be available in LimeSurvey.

PS.- I don't know what "a senior moment" and "a collapsed timetable day" are. Are they typical UK events?thoughtful

Aha! smile
I know what they are Joseph! (being in the UK!)
A "senior moment" is a polite way of saying that you forgot something or got muddled up because you are OLD.
A "collapsed timetable day" is something currently in fashion in Uk schools where instead of normal lessons, students have a special day where they do something different.

 Hi Joseph,

Do you think it's possible to add "Min" and "Max" settings for the Rate question type, like the Check boxes question type?

Yaniv.

The Ranking table for SurveyGizmo allows you to do what you are asking. You list all 19 options as rows in the table, but then only label the first 4 columns (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th). It will render the table with only 4 columns, but all 19 rows, allowing you to 'rank the top 4'. Available at the free level too!

SurveyGizmo is not open source and not downloadable. It seems actually fairly costly. Unless I am mistaken...

Thanks anyway.

I have just created a simple questionnaire, i will just TRY and make it clear to the students that they can only pick 1 , first, second, third and forth choice.
