user policies: treat guests as students

user policies: treat guests as students

Hallo everybody,

I was looking for a way to allow guests to post (if possible, in one special course only)

When I tried to override permissions, it didn't work and I was told guests can never post.

Now I see that I could change the default role of non-connected users: if I change it to "student" or a new role with permission to post, do you think it is dangerous ?

Would anybody know another way to let non connected users post just in one particular course ?

Thank you for your help !

Hi Ulrike. I posted this in the other forum where you had asked a similar question: I know you've been trying to do this for a while but I forgot the main reason why it is so important that they post in a forum. Is it essential that everyone can see what the guests have posted? If you just want guest feedback why not install the feedback module which guests can post to or else make a link to a form in google docs that anyone can fill in?

Thank you Mary fot that idea, it could be a solution.

But I think it's a little "amateur" to use Google Docs when you just want to communicate with guests (potential clients), especially if you consider that Moodle is probably the best elearning software smile

Hi Ulrike,

If you want guests to be able to post in a forum, you can create a visitor account, say with username = password = visitor, for everyone to share. (Info copied from Guest role documentation.)

Hallo,

I think I'm going to do that; now I have to find out where I can dispaly the information for my visitors.

The pages which are shown when guests try to post in forum  (sorry, guests are not allowed to post/reply to posts...do you want to log with a user account) could be a good place - does anybody now where I can change the text of these pages  ?

Thank you !!

Ulrike

Hi Ulrike. If you go to site admin>language>language editing>edit words and phrases> and choose forum.php you can alter the wording you want.

I don't know how much information you want from guests but the most recent questionnaire can be made to work for guest.
