I have osx, and I'm looking for a decent ftp server that will allow me to specify virtual directories and add users, passwords etc.

Can anyone suggest a good opensourse FTPserver?

Tanks

After years using SmartFTP (freeware) I've recently move to filezilla. I think I got this at Sourceforge.

Thanks!

Apple's built in OSX FTP was driving me crazy.  It's really not cool to see 30 other logins just to make 30 FTP accounts.

Really dumb question.

I'm running terminal under OSX.

The instructions say just type type MAKE and it will compile.

Uhm when I type make, it's not a command?

I see.. new to compiling from source.. wink
So, I don't use OS X myself, but I guess using fink
might be a good idea. Either to get make or to directly install proftpd.

I second that recommendation for fink, it's absolutely excellent and I believe it's all GUI-operated now, too.

I also strongly recommend fink. It's fantastic.

However, if you're getting "command not found" when you type make, it may mean that you haven't installed the OS X Developer Tools. Those normally come on a separate CD and aren't installed by default.

I believe you can also download the Developer Tools from Apple's site if you don't have the CD, but check around to see if you have it first.

If it's a brand-new Mac, the Developer Tools are actually already on the HD, but not installed (at least that was the case with my new G5).
