HTML editor bug?

HTML editor bug?

von Marc Dastous -
Anzahl Antworten: 8

I would have posted this to moodle.org/bugs, but the site is not accepting my login, nor can I create a new account.

I believe there is a bug in the HTML editor from last night.  I upgraded one of my sites and the HTML editor does not appear.  However, on the other site, the one that was not upgraded, it still appears.

I even turned off Zone Alarm thinking that might be an issue, but it was not.

Any ideas.

Marc

thoughtfulSome ideas ,and experiences ( to share) regarding  problems with login , and the html  editor, in Moodle , from a Win XP Home (recently SP2 installed ) user.

NOT a   MOODLE  problem , its other issues ! (IMHOPlease bear with me as I am a user of software , not a programmer !
I couldt find Bryans original post on Zone Alarm , however, I did a few months ago read it, and therefore set my Zone Alarm to allow me to access moodle.org, and my own site. By selecting the site in the privacy section  As follows  Enter the url and click ok

Result, Zone Alarm allows that site to be accessed!  (there is also code in Moodle somewhere that recognises that )

However, due to upgrades in Zone Alarm, Win, whatever, firewalls ,etc etc , those privacy additions appear to have been changed !
This is the screen (when I right click on moodle.org  as above) that comes up for Ad Blocking I honestly did not touch (or even know that option was there a few months ago !)

And, the html editor was available to me on moodle.org!When I did the same exercise on my site, all those add blocking boxes were ticked ! So, I unticked them

Now I can access the html editor !! The other problem I had with login to the Xampp localhost I set up ( to play with) ,

also was Zone Alarm related, I could access it ,only if Zone Alarm was turned off !! Tried, admin, admin everything, but to no effect ,until ZA was off, or, (in hindsight) correctly configured. Guys, as I said,I  aint no expert on programming, and really beginning to hate MS IE Exploder but as Jeff so aptly put it today, the MS Win users are at present in the majority . (and will be for some time to come )

I have to have it installed to run my MYOB software ( that is the source of my income )

From a dummys viewpoint, it appears to me that certain functions in Moodle, e.g html editor, and the resource/file upload use what the firewall thingys see as a pop up window ?If I turn off those dreaded pop-ups I then cant get some of the functions in Moodle ?

Any thoughts ?  Didn't know where to put this post ??

I think this is an SP2 pack upgrade issue. It is becoming increasingly apparent that there is something seriously amiss with IE6 and the XP SP2 upgrade.

Just out of curiosity, try a different browser, like Opera.

I'm a convert after spending 2 days going through over 260 tables to cure an error reported by IE6 with XP SP2 only to find a roll back (removal of SP2) cured the problem as did using some substitue browsers.

Joyce and others that have installed XP SP2:

I have asked Martin to set up a forum for dealing with issues that arise over SP2, as I am fairly certain that some folks are going to have problems. By default, the firewall that is included in SP2 is turned on and set to fairly strict standards on port control. Like ZoneAlarm, many sites will have to be manually added to the trusted list in SP2 firewall settings. I expect the HTML editor is going to be the first noticeable casualty, as folks are already reporting. ZoneAlarm was treating this both as a pop-up and port violation, until added to the safe list. Who knows what else we can expect from this Microsoft wonder.

This is most definitely not an XP SP2 problem.  I'm using this editor right now in IE with the firewall turned on using default settings.

I'm doubly sure because from what I've read about it the Windows firewall is very simple and only blocks ports and programs.  It doesn't get clever and block Javascript files and web content like Zone Alarm does (which causes the Editor problem).

Now the popup-blocking, well, those of us using Mozilla have been used to that for years and IE users will have to get used to it too zwinkernd  The good thing here is that IE6 SP2 does print warning messages about the blocked popups and asks you what to do about them.

I still don't see the need for a whole XP SP2 forum.

(Firewall off, for me, and back to Mozilla. The Moodle interface is just not the same without all the curvy bits! zwinkernd)

I am also posting this with SP2 (and the firewall on) and htmlArea without difficulty.  However, there may be other security settings in IE that are restricting you from using htmlEdit.  I'd try going to tools->Internet Options->Security.  Click on the "Trusted Sites" zone.  Add the moodle sites you visit to that zone, and set the security settings for that zone to the Default->Low setting.

Best wishes,
